 Substances are referred to something nutritious to your compost. Something makes the material composted faster than ever, and makes the compost even more efficient. 

In making compost,  we always use these substances:

Molasses:  

To push the materials to be rotten fast. 

EM : 

Effective Micro-Organism. It is the best natural substance to make the materials rotten faster than ever. One more function is not to make the composting materials smelling bad. It saves the environment.
